Office Chairs for Tall People: Seat Height & Depth
For a tall person, the best office chair is the one whose usable seat height, seat depth and backrest adjustments fit their body and desk. Being 6’2″ or 6’4″ is a starting point, not enough information to prescribe one seat measurement or chair model.

What to measure before comparing chairs
Start with your current seated setup and the shoes you normally wear. Note which adjustment is missing: more seat height, a deeper seat, different back support or armrests that clear the desk. Two people of the same height can have different leg and torso proportions.

Seat height for someone 6’4″: avoid one-size rules
Compare the chair’s range against your actual seated position rather than assuming everyone at 6’4″ needs the same number of inches. OSHA recommends a seat that allows the feet to rest on the floor or a footrest. Also check the relationship to the keyboard and available knee space under your desk.
Do not buy a generic cylinder extender to compensate for a poor fit without checking manufacturer approval and compatibility. A different lift or chair configuration may change more than the advertised seat height.
Long legs: check usable seat depth
A deeper seat is only useful if you can still use the backrest and the front edge is not pressing behind your knees. OSHA’s evaluation checklist asks for depth that supports the user without preventing use of lumbar support. Check the exact seat pan and adjustment range, not the product’s shipping dimensions.
