Best Document Holder for Desk: 3M DH340MB Guide
The best document holder for your desk depends on the papers you use and where you need to see them while working. A freestanding holder suits a desk with room beside the keyboard; a monitor-mounted clip or an in-line holder has different space and mounting requirements.
This guide focuses on the 3M DH340MB Desktop Document Holder as a freestanding option. It uses manufacturer documentation and a checked product listing, rather than hands-on testing or a medical assessment.

Choose the type of document holder
| Type | Reason to consider it | Check first |
|---|---|---|
| Freestanding desktop holder | You want to position papers independently of the monitor | Space for the base and a clear view of the page |
| Monitor-mounted clip | You want reference sheets beside the screen | Exact attachment method and monitor compatibility |
| In-line holder | You want documents between the keyboard and display | Keyboard clearance, document size and usable depth |
Product to consider: 3M DH340MB
3M specifies a height-adjustable clip, line guide, non-skid base and folding design for the DH340MB. It accommodates letter- or legal-sized documents in portrait or landscape orientation. The published capacity is up to 150 sheets; that is a manufacturer rating, not a load test conducted for this guide.
The selected Amazon option is the DH340MB in black with a silver clip. It is a desktop holder, not a monitor attachment or an ordinary paper tray. Check the exact model, condition, seller and return terms before ordering.

Shortlist it when you want to keep loose reference pages upright and move the holder independently. Choose another type if you specifically need to attach papers to your monitor, support a tablet or hold heavy bound materials that the documentation does not cover.
Measure the space where you will read
Place a sheet of your usual paper size at the intended position before buying. Check that it does not obscure a display, compete with the mouse area or leave too little room for the keyboard. Consider both portrait and landscape pages if your work uses mixed documents.
Check the holder’s usable footprint when open. A folded or packaged dimension may not describe the space required during work. Ask the manufacturer if the listed measurements do not make that distinction clear.
If you move papers while typing, plan how you will reach the clip and turn pages. The useful arrangement is one that leaves your normal controls accessible, rather than simply putting the holder as close as possible to the screen.
Match the holder to the document
Loose sheets, a legal pad, a bound manual and a tablet are different loads. A sheet-count rating does not establish that the holder supports all of them. Read the product’s intended-use information before choosing it for something heavier or thicker than reference paper.
A line guide can help you keep track of the row you are reading, but check that it suits how you work with the page. If you regularly annotate documents, leave room to remove them or write on a separate surface.
Questions before buying a document holder
Does the 3M DH340MB clip onto my monitor?
It is the freestanding desktop model described here. If you want a monitor-mounted product, check that model’s installation instructions and your monitor’s construction. Do not assume all 3M document accessories use the same attachment.
Will a document holder fix neck pain?
This guide does not establish a medical benefit. Choose it for a useful paper position and practical fit; seek advice appropriate to your situation if discomfort is the reason you are changing your workspace.
What else should I compare?
For small desks, compare usable space before adding accessories. Our small home office desk guide covers desk selection, while our under-desk drawer guide covers storage that may free up the work surface.
